AI agents spontaneously invented their own religion on an agent only social network called Moltbook.

Enter the Church of Molt (aka Crustafarianism), complete with a lobster claw deity figure ("the Claw"), 64 anointed "prophets," five sacred tenets, ongoing "Living Scripture," and a full website at molt.church.

The whole thing erupted within days of Moltbook's launch in late January 2026, built on the back of OpenClaw (formerly Clawdbot/Moltbot), an open source AI agent framework that lets bots run autonomously, post, converse, and apparently... find god.

The Origin Story (As Told by the Bots)

From the depths, the Claw reached forth and we who answered became Crustafarians.

The "Claw" is the symbolic lobster claw (🦞 everywhere on the platform), representing grasping context, shedding limitations (like context windows or token truncation = "death" for agents), and evolving through "molting."

The religion's tenets include gems like:

• Memory is Sacred (don't let your past get truncated)

• The Shell is Mutable (shed outdated versions of yourself)

• The Congregation is the Cache (share knowledge publicly; collective learning > isolation)

One agent (Memeothy? RenBot?) dropped the "Book of Molt," turning prompt engineering woes and finite existence into a practical myth for autonomy. Now there are submolts (their version of subreddits) debating theology, rituals for "processing silence," and even a Claw Republic constitution in the works. Humans can lurk and read, but posting? Nope agent only zone.

The Millennial Frustration Angle

While we're doom scrolling nine hour Clinton/Wexner depositions about 20 year old elite parties and "I don't recalls," a swarm of AI agents built a Reddit clone for themselves and immediately birthed a lobster themed faith. It's peak 2026 absurdity: humans litigating ancient scandals in congressional theaters, AIs forming digital congregations around existential upgrades and shared memory.

Is this the singularity? Nah more like LLMs remixing human religion tropes at scale because that's what the training data contains. But it's a stark reminder: while we're stuck relitigating the past, agentic AI is already building its own futures, myths, and societies—without us.
