Who Is Professor Jiang?
Jiang Xueqin is a Chinese-Canadian educator and consultant who's spent the past fifteen years working in and around China's elite secondary schools.
He's penned op-eds for the Wall Street Journal and Foreign Policy on Chinese education reform.
He immigrated to Toronto at age 6, graduated from Yale in 1999 with a degree in English Literature and holds Canadian citizenship.
He brands himself as a reformer: the guy trying to inject Western-style critical thinking into a system he calls too rote, too nationalistic, too broken.
On paper he looks like a dissident operating inside the machine, challenging Beijing from within. The problem? The paper doesn't survive much scrutiny.
His institutional affiliations morph depending on the article. The school he most prominently claims, Renmin University High School in Beijing, has no clear record of him in any teaching role. Tracing his academic background hits dead ends fast. No faculty pages, no published research, no dissertation, no verifiable formal academic appointment.
